EPC and Global Industry Groups urge the EP to vote in favour of UK-EU Adequacy Decision

On 11 May 2021, the European Publishers Council and Global Technology Industry Groups urged the Members of the European Parliament to vote in favour of the United Kingdom (UK) - European Union (EU) Adequacy Decision ahead of the European Parliament vote on 20 May 2021.

Prior to leaving the European Union, the UK Government decided to adopt the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to adhere to the data protection rules set by the EU. The Adequacy Decision would ensure an essential equivalent level of protection of data as guaranteed under the GDPR and the Law Enforcement Directive (LED). Importantly, safeguards including the continued monitoring of the UK’s privacy legislation would be ensured by the arrangements.

Angela Mills Wade, EPC Executive Director stated: "The European Parliament’s support will be critical in ensuring personal data can continue to flow seamlessly between the EU and the UK."
